BNKR Arquitectura has made a proposal to build an inverted
Aztec pyramid or “Earthscraper” in the very center of the historic part of
Mexico City. A 1,000 foot long inverted pyramid is rooted into the ground,
where a city is layered 65 stories almost 300m deep. The structure’s glass roof
on the ground level covers the habitable space around the perimeter of the void
and the first ten stories are to house museums and tourist attractions,
commercial stores, residence and offices.

Skyscrapers are the traditional small-footprint solution for
growing square footage in big cities, but what are developers to do in growing
places like Mexico City where new building construction is limited to just ten
stories tall?
The BKNR officials said that “the historic center of Maxico
City is in a desperate need of a programmatic make-over. New Infrastructure, office,
retail and living space is required but no empty plots are available. Federal
and local laws prohibit demolishing historic buildings and height regulations
limit new structures to 8 stories.”

Therefore the only option is to reverse direction and build
down instead of up. This his earth-scraper design by BKNR Arquitectura features
a central light well that doubles as a layered park, bringing illumination,
ventilation and living greenery into the depths of the building. The design made by the architecture company depicts from the following pictures.

This Earthscraper in no doubt one of the great architectural concept given BKNR. We hope that these designs may come in implementation and people will taste the living standards of these Earthscrapers.
